GAME NOTES:
Before Friday’s game, the late U.S. Army Major Thomas Kennedy was honored. Kennedy, who played for the Black Knights before graduating from West Point in 2000, was killed in Afghanistan in August. He was 35 years old…UNO freshman defenseman Nick Seeler picked up the first goal of his collegiate career 8:43 into the game. A fifth-round pick of the Minnesota Wild in 2011, Seeler found the net by swatting home a second-chance opportunity inside the Army goal crease…The win gave UNO a 1-0-0 start to its season, and the Mavericks will face No. 16 Notre Dame in the Icebreaker final on Saturday night. Army (0-1-0) will play against No. 20 Maine in the tournament’s consolation game.
