Nebraska Omaha recruit Alex Broadhurst, younger brother of former Maverick forward Terry Broadhurst, was taken by the London Knights on Saturday morning in the 2012 Ontario Hockey League draft.
Alex Broadhurst – who, it has been reported, is academically ineligible to join UNO for the 2012-13 season – was picked up by the Knights as the seventh pick in the second round of Saturday’s draft.
The OHL is one of the three major junior hockey leagues that together make up the Canadian Hockey League. The league is made up of players ranging from ages 15-20.
Alex Broadhurst, 18, was a 2011 draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks. He currently plays for the Green Bay Gamblers in the United States Hockey League, and has, at the time of writing, is leading the Gamblers in scoring in 2011-12 with 69 points (25 goals, 44 assists).
Terry Broadhurst, Alex’s older brother, signed a two-year deal with the Blackhawks as an undrafted free agent on Mar. 19, thus foregoing his senior season of eligibility at UNO.
Terry is currently playing for the Rockford IceHogs, Chicago’s feeder club in the American Hockey League.
