Minnesota State bounced back from an overtime loss to visiting Nebraska-Omaha on Friday to get one of its own Saturday, with the purple Mavericks earning a 5-4 win to salvage a series split with UNO.
MSU’s Johnny McInnis scored the winner 3:05 into the extra frame at Mankato, Minn.’s Verizon Wireless Center, beating UNO goaltender John Faulkner with a wrist shot from the top of the circles.
Eriah Hayes also shined for MSU Saturday, with the junior forward netting three goals of his own.
The visitors had three one-goal leads on Saturday and leveled the game with 9.5 seconds left through a Jayson Megna goal. MSU held on, though, to raise its record to 8-17-1 and 4-13-1 in the WCHA.
UNO freshman Josh Archibald had two goals and an assist for the red Mavs (12-10-4, 9-6-3).
Bryce Aneloski was UNO’s other scorer on Friday.
UNO now has a week off before facing Bemidji State in Omaha Feb. 3 and 4. BSU features in Minnesota State’s future, too, with MSU traveling to Bemidji, Minn. to face the Beavers Jan. 27 and 28.
